WAEC Bans 2 Schools, Derecognises 28 For Examination Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council on Thursday disclosed that it has stopped two secondary schools in Imo State from registering candidates for its Senior School Certificate Examination and being used as an Examination Centre for a period of five years following gross examination malpractices.

This was coming from the Head, Public Affairs of the council, Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu.

According to him, in one of the Secondary Schools, a supervisor was assaulted while some WAEC Officials were refused entry in the other for more than 30  minutes school in a bid to perpetrate examination malpractice. He however refused to mention the affected schools.

Similarly, about 28 schools have been derecognised for a period of two years for various forms of examination malpractices.

He went further to point out the difference between derecognising a school and withdrawing the recognition of a school.

According to him, when a school is derecognised,  the school can still be used as an examination centre; however the teachers in such school will not be allowed to act as supervisors while in the case of withdrawing a schools recognition such school will neither have its teachers as invigilators nor be used as an examination centre.
