Following the previous report on Yabatech female hostel gutted by fire yesterday, it has been reported that over 40 students were injured in the cause of trying to escape from the fire.
A HND1 student who identified herself simply as Oluwakemi, said she lost all her belongings to the fire as well as other students, she added that two of her friends fainted as a result of the fumes they inhaled.
She said ", “There was a power cut and somebody started the generator, immediately the power was switched to the generator, there was spark from a wire in the hostel that was what started the fire, Our wires are bad and we have been complaining to the school authorities since September"
It was also gathered that the fire fighters arrived when the fire had already damaged properties, also due to the damage caused by the fire, academic activities at the institution have been suspended for three days.
