The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University hereby. announces that the position of Vice-Chancellor will become vacant in June. 2019. In accordance with the provisions of the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions (now 2007 Act No. 1) 1993 as amended. Council, hereby, invites applications from suitably qualified and distinguished Professors with cognate experience in University teaching, research and administration.
The University:
Nnamdi Azikiwe University evolved from the then Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) which was established by Law No. 7 of 30th July. 1980. With Decree No. 34 July, 1992. (now CAP. N 139, LFN, 2004 ), the University was taken over by the Federal Government of Nigeria with financial effect from 1st September, 1992.

The Job:
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University as well as the ex-officio Chairman of Senate and member of the Governing Council.
He or she is responsible to Council in matters of policy implementation in the area of finance, property/facilities, general administration and good governance of the Institution.
The Vice-Chancellor is also responsible to Senate, administration of academic programme and student discipline, in consonance with extant rules and regulations.
The Candidate:
The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor is required to possess a good first degree. master’s degree and a PhD or its equivalent consistent with the area of specialization and should be a competent manager of human and material resources.
The candidate shall be expected to:
(a) Be highly distinguished and self-motivated academic of the rank of Professor of not less than ten (10) years’ experience on that rank in a reputable University:
(b) Be a successful scholar well rooted in the finest academic traditions with ability to provide academic leadership;
(c) Be a person with good grasp of information and communication technology skills relevant to contemporary times;
(d) Be a person of courage but humane. who can take decisive actions on the merit of facts and principles:
(e) Must be a person of proven integrity, academic and administrative competence to provide effective leadership to a high profile academic community;
(f) Should be of high global reputation and command commensurate respect within the academic communities:
(g) Be able to create synergy between the University community and its stakeholders devoid of ethnic, religious, local loyalties and other biases;
(h) Must not be more than 65 years in age at the time of assumption of office, should be able to serve the full term of five years before attaining the retirement age of 70 years and must be physically and mentally fit:
(i) Be able to perform any other lawful duties and responsibilities as may from time to time be directed by Council.
Terms and Conditions of Service:
The salary and conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in all Federal Universities in Nigeria and as may be determined by Council from time to time.
The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a one term period of five (5) years only.
