University Students To Start New Gender Course

Students across the universities nationwide are to start a new General studies course, Gender and Transformation Leadership (GLT) as part of General Studies Programs in universities to address gender issues.

The Country Representative of UN Women, Adekemi Ndieli, Confirmed this by saying that the integration of GLT into general studies will help address the issue of sexual harassment in institutions and the imbalance that have existed over the years within national development context.

Ndieli, Speaking on Monday, June 27, said this new action will encourage the Nigerian leadership to put policies in place as relating to gender issues in the country.

Ndieli made this declaration at a workshop for the Development of Benchmark Minimum Academics Standards (BMAS) for Gender and Transformation Leadership (GLT) as a General Study course for Nigerian universities, organized by National Universities Commission (NUC) in collaboration with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

She explains in her speech, “we know what they have to go through in order to scale through the educational system, however transformational leadership will look at how to put the policies in place to address the problems that exist within that context so that there is course to justice and solution to the young men and women facing harassment."
