University Of Manchester Global Futures Scholarships for African Students 2023

The University of Manchester is proud to offer awards totalling more than £2.9 million to international students, commencing their studies in September 2023. The scholarship is open to both prospective bachelor’s and master’s students.

Undergraduate awards

We're offering 7 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £5,000 to international students domiciled in the following countries in Africa: Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Students must be taking one of the following qualifications: A-level, IB, South African Matric, NCUK International Foundation Year.

Master’s awards

We're offering 16 merit-based master’s scholarships of £15,000 to international students domiciled in the following countries in Africa: Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Aim and Benefits of Undergraduate Global Futures Scholarships

The Global Futures Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence and your responses to questions in the online application form which will be emailed to all eligible offer holders.

The seven partial awards will be open to applicants domiciled in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Each award comprises £5,000 for the first year of study with a further £5,000 awarded in the second and third years of study, conditional on attainment of 60% average in each year.

Scholarships will be awarded in the form of an appropriate discount against published overseas tuition fees.

Requirements for Undergraduate Global Futures Scholarships Qualification

Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the following countries: Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2023 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications:

  • A-levels
  • IB Diploma
  • South African NSC or IEB
  • NCUK International Foundation Year

Applicants for the African awards must have accepted a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time programme at Manchester and must submit an online scholarship application form by 19 May 2023.

Awards will be made following the confirmation of examination results between June and August 2023 depending on the qualification taken.

  • The application form will be emailed to all relevant offer-holders.
  • Applicants will be considered for the award based on academic merit and the quality of their scholarship application.
  • Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).
  • Applicants for Medicine (MBChB) Dentistry (BDS) or Architecture degrees are not eligible for the award.
  • Applicants must have selected The University of Manchester as their FIRM UCAS choice by 19 May 2023.
  • Applicants who have previously studied  at a higher education institution in the UK are not eligible for the award.
  • Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.

  • Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees are not eligible for the award.
  • Applicants who have previously studied a degree in the UK are not eligible for the award.
  • Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.

How to Apply

Undergraduate awards

You must submit an online scholarship application form by 19 May 2023.

The link to the online application form will be emailed to all relevant offer-holders.

All scholarship applicants will be notified of the University’s decision by August 2023 following release of exam results.

Master’s awards

Applicants for the African awards must have accepted a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time master’s programme at Manchester and must submit an online scholarship application form by 19 May 2023.

The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.

Awardees will be announced by mid-June 2023.

In addition, a number of other faculty, school and programme-specific scholarships are available to students from Africa.
