The Senate of the University of Benin has announced the reopening of the university, following a temporary closure on July 4, 2024. The closure was necessitated by student protests and agitations, which disrupted academic and administrative activities.
During the closure, the university management addressed the underlying issues, including electricity and water supply, and renovation of halls of residence.
The university will reopen as follows:
- Students can return to halls of residence on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
- Lectures will resume on Monday, August 12, 2024.
As a condition for returning to campus, each student must swear to an affidavit of undertaking to be of good conduct while in the university. The affidavit must be uploaded to the student's Kofa page and a hard copy submitted to the departmental course adviser within two weeks of resumption.
The university management urges students to comply with this directive to avoid any consequences, including withholding of results.
Signed,
A.A. Bobola
Registrar, University of Benin
