UNIPORT Postgraduate Diploma Admission, 2018/2019

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Master of Science (M.Sc) and Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes respectively in Peace and Conflict Studies, and Gender Studies of the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

1. Main Objectives of the Programmes

The overall goal of the Peace and Conflict Studies Programme is to provide quality graduate level training and research to enable students analyze conflicts so as to understand the underlying causes and apply appropriate strategies to manage or resolve them. In a similar vein, the Gender Studies Programme focus on men and women issues to provide the required knowledge for achieving positive gender relations for effective collaboration in development.

2. Admission Requirements

(a) Master of Science (M.Sc) in Peace and Conflict Studies:For admission into the Master of Science (M.Sc) Programme in Peace and Conflict Studies, a candidate must possess at least a lower Credit in Peace and Conflict Studies or related discipline at the Post Graduate Diploma level. Also, candidates with degrees in related disciplines from any recognized university with a CGPA of 3.00 on 5-point scale will be considered. O’level requirements are Mathematics, English Language and three other Arts or Science subjects (accepted for registration in the University of Port Harcourt).

 (b) Master of Science (M.Sc) in Gender and Women Development Studies: For admission into the Master of Science (M.Sc) Programme in Gender and Women Development Studies, a candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree (at least, a Second Class Honours, Lower Division) in Gender Studies or a Degree in any Field from any recognized university with a CGPA of 3.00 on 5-point scale or a minimum grade of Merit at Post-Graduate Diploma level in Gender Studies. O’level requirements are Mathematics, English Language and three other Arts or Science subjects (accepted for registration in the University of Port Harcourt).

(a)Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Gender and Women Development Studies: To qualify for admission into the Post-Graduate Diploma Programme, a candidate must possess a minimum of Third Class Degree or its equivalent in any field or discipline with a CGPA of 1.50 on 5-point scale of the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized university. For candidates with HND background, a minimum of Upper Credit shall be considered. O’level requirements are Mathematics, English Language and three other Arts or Science subjects (accepted for registration in the University of Port Harcourt).

(b) Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Peace and Conflict Studies: To qualify for admission into the Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Peace and conflict Studies, a candidate must possess a minimum of Third Class Degree or equivalent in any field or discipline with a CGPA of 1.50 on 5-point scale of the University of Port Harcourt or any recognized university. For candidates with HND background, a minimum of Upper Credit Unit shall be considered. O’level requirements are Mathematics, English Language and three other Arts or Science subjects (accepted for registration in the University of Port Harcourt)

3. Duration of the Programmes

The minimum duration for M.Sc, or PGD is twelve (12) calendar months, while the maximum duration is twenty four (24) calendar months.

4. Method of Application

On-line Application: Log on to www.uniport.edu.ng and carefully follow the instructions.

Bank payment is at Fidelity Bank Plc, A/C No. 5210017988 or U&C Microfinance Bank Ltd., Uniport, Choba, A/C No. 1528023910. On payment of a non-refundable sum of N20,500.00 only (inclusive of bank charges), Bank Payment Print-out enables prospective candidates to obtain the Application Form on-line or from the Office of the Director, Centre for Conflict and Gender Studies (CCGS), University of Port Harcourt.

5. Submission of Completed Application Forms

Completed Application Forms, together with academic transcripts, two reference letters and other relevant documents should be returned to the Director, Centre for Conflict and Gender Studies (CCGS), University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, not later than six weeks from the date of this publication.
