UNIPORT PGD, MSc and PhD Degree Programmes admission in INRES, 2021/2022

The Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Sustainable Development (INRES) is a multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence established in 2011 with a grant by the MacArthur Foundation, Chicago, USA.   INRES also collaborates with several Organizations including Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) which provides support through the Nigerian Technical Cooperation Fund (NTCF), African Development Bank (AfDB), National Air Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the National Water Resources Institute of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology for capacity building and real-time training of African Students.

Objective

The objective of the Graduate Degree programmes is to produce competent Manpower with interdisciplinary/ multidisciplinary training in natural resources and environmental management, integrated water resources management and Climate Change. The emphasis of the training   programme is the development of research and analytical skills for complex problem-solving.

Available Degree Programmes

  1. PGD, M.Sc. and Ph.D in Natural Resources and Environmental Management
  2. M.Sc. in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

Admission Requirements

Admission into the M.Sc. programmes is open to first degree graduates in Agriculture, Science, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, Health Sciences and related disciplines who possess minimum of second class lower degree (CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale and 2.40 on a 4-point scale). Candidates possessing relevant PGD with minimum of 2.5 in a 5-point scale can also apply. The PGD candidates should possess B.Sc. with at least 3rd Class Honours. HND candidates with at least   Upper Credit pass are also eligible to apply. Candidates for the PhD programme should have relevant MSc. degrees with minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale. All applicants must possess relevant O’ Level results including credits in English Language and Mathematics.

Mode of Study and Programme Duration

The duration of the PGD and MSc programmes for fulltime students is 12 calendar months (no disruption by strike actions) while the duration of the PhD programme is at least 24 Calendar months.  All programmes are Modular and Full time. In certain exceptional instances arrangement for Part-Time may be considered.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities exist for graduates of all the programmes in the environment, natural resources, water resources management ministries, agencies and departments in the public and private sectors.  INRES graduates further undertake national and international certifications to make them industry-ready and able to establish their own consultancy services in these relevant sectors.

Method of Application

Application Forms can be obtained from INRES Office (Delta Park, University of Port Harcourt) on submission of a bank draft of non-refundable application fee of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira for Nigerians and USD 200 for non-Nigerians, payable to the Institute of Natural Resources, Environment & Sustainable Development (INRES). Payment can also be made directly into INRES account (No 5210026885), Fidelity Bank Ltd, University of Port Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State.
