The Osun State University’s (UNIOSUN) Law programme received an approval from the Council of Legal Education, allowing an increase in its admission quota to one hundred and twenty (120). This was confirmed through an official statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, on Monday, 22nd May, 2023.
Reaccreditation and Quota Increase
Earlier this year, on Thursday, 19th January, 2023, the Accreditation Panel of the Council of Legal Education visited the University’s College of Law, Ifetedo Campus, for a reaccreditation exercise. The objective of this exercise was to assess the possibility of increasing the Law programme’s admission quota.
According to the statement from Mr. Adesoji, a letter from the Council, dated Thursday, 30th March, 2023, signified the approved increase. The letter was addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor ‘Ayo Clement Adebooye, and was signed by the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Mrs. Elizabeth Max-Uba.
Confirmation of Quota Increase
The letter from the Council stated, “The Council has approved that the Faculty maintains its Provisional Accreditation status. It further approved an increase in the admission quota of the Faculty to one hundred and twenty (120) with effect from the date of this letter.”

It’s important to note that this increase in quota is applicable from the next intake into the Faculty at the 100 level and does not have any retroactive effects with regards to Law School admission.
Grounds for Quota Increase
The decision to increase the quota was based on the outstanding teaching and research facilities, significant achievements by students and alumni of the University’s College of Law, and overall favorable assessment of key performance indicators over the past years.
It’s worth mentioning that an alumna of the College, Oluwabusola Mary, was awarded a first-class at the Nigerian Law School following the release of the 2022 Bar Part II final examination results. Similarly, a 400-level student of the College, Richard Solomon Abayomi, was appointed a West African Youth Ambassador by the West African (ECOWAS) Youth Council in 2022.
This landmark decision will not only bolster the reputation of the University’s Law programme but will also provide more opportunities for aspiring legal professionals to receive a high-quality education at UNIOSUN.
