The attention of the Management of Osun State University has been drawn to some reports on social media claiming that residence on school hostel is optional for fresh students. The management of Osun State University, led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afeez Adefemi Bello debunks this claim as they hold no water.
In a statement released by the University Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji stated that residence in the hostels across the six campuses of the University remain compulsory for fresh students who have been offered admission into the University.
“This policy was made by the Institution with the best interest of the students at heart. It has been observed that young adults, who a chunk of them are in their adolescent age, are easily influenced by social and physical vices when not under proper supervision.”
“In years past when the University was not residential, newly admitted students have been known to lose their ways in their academics, or fall under security risks, which necessitated the promulgation and enactment of the policy by the Institution.”
It would be recalled that Osun State University in the last quarters of 2020 opened to fresh students its newly constructed 104-capacity hostels built across its six campuses. The structures are outfitted with modern facilities and superintended by experienced hall wardens with impressive records.
It is in view of this that we hereby implore the general public not to give credence to any report on social media claiming residence on campus for newly admitted students is optional,” Adesoji added.
