The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyuAmbali, stated this last Monday (May 20, 2014), when he received members of an Accreditation Panel from the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) in his office.
Prof. Ambali, who spoke through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Felix Oladele, commended the CPN for maintaining a high standard of Information Technology education in the country, describing the body as a “partner in progress”.

The Vice-Chancellor maintained that the University is open to honest assessment, adding that the panel should not hesitate to let the management know if there were still areas that needed attention. He said in addition that the University is doing much in the area of ICT.
Informing the accreditation team that the University was doing much in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Prof. Ambali disclosed that the University recently commenced the distribution of Personal Computer (PC) tablets to its students and has laid fibre optics in order to have a robust internet infrastructure.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that the institution’s computer laboratory has been equipped and that qualified lecturers have been engaged, saying, “We are not perfect but we are forming partnerships to be better”.
The leader of the CPN accreditation team, Prof. C. O. Uwandia, in his remarks, noted that the over-arching theme of the Council’s mandate is to provide a regulated and standard-driven environment for IT education and practice in the country to engender socio-economic development.
Prof. Uwandia explained that the Council is primarily charged with the responsibility of building local Information Technology (IT) capacity as well as the regulation of IT practice in Nigeria. He said the panel was in the University to assess the Computer Science Department to see whether it was conforming to laid-down standards.
Other members of the CPN accreditation team included: Mrs. Aderonke Bello, Dr. John B. Oladosu, Dr. ChukwugoziemIhekeweaba and Mr. Ameen O. Ismail. They were led to the Vice-Chancellor by the Dean of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. J. S. Sadiku and the Ag. Head of the Department of Computer Science, Dr. R. G. Jimoh.
The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) was established via Act No. 49 of 1993 under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Education.
