University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Students Win UNESCO Scholarships

Two University of Ilorin students have received prestigious awards from the International Centre for Biotechnology, which is run by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

According to the University of Ilorin Bulletin, the students were selected for the scholarship based on their academic performance in the organization’s educational peer review.

The duo, Mr. Samson Oyebamiji of the Department of Microbiology and Mr. Sodiq Alasi of the Department of Food Engineering, were awarded the UNESCO ICB MSc. Scholarship and the UNESCO ICB Final Year undergraduate scholarship, according to the announcement.

According to the university publication, a letter from the Chairman of the Scholarships Award Committee, Prof. Umezuruike Opara, commended the students for applying for the UNESCO International Centre for Biotechnology MSc. Scholarship (UNESCO ICB).

He stated that all applications were reviewed by the Scholarships Awards Committee (SAC) based on the advertised criteria, which included a course of study related to Biotechnology/BioSciences and good academic records.

“Congratulations, it is our pleasure to award the UNESCO ICB MSc. Scholarships for N1,014,914.67 to you, Mr. Samson Oyebamiji of the Department of Microbiology, University of Ilorin, and the Final Year Undergraduate Scholarships for N500,000.00 to you, Mr. Sodiq Alasi of the Department of Food Engineering, University of Ilorin.”

“This award will cover your tuition, housing, books, and living expenses during your MSc. and undergraduate studies at the university,” he explained.
