UNILORIN student who assaulted a lecturer gives reasons for the attack

The 400-level Microbiology student of the University of Ilorin, who was arrested on Thursday, November 11 for beating a female lecturer of the school who also doubled as his project supervisor into a coma has given reasons for his actions. Recall that the student popularly known as Captain Walz, went haywire over the lecturer's refusal to help him after he failed to take the compulsory Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

While speaking to a team of UNILORIN campus journalists, Walz revealed that he assaulted the lecturer because she refused to help wave his mandatory SIWES which he couldn’t do due to unforeseen circumstances.

He added that he had a dream where he saw his Level Adviser plotting against him along with his project supervisor, Mrs. Zakariyau, and other people. He claimed to have met the lecturer several times over the same issue, but she refused to help him.

According to Walz, he was unable to fulfill the SIWES requirement because he was arrested and locked up for about two months in Lagos. He explained that he had gone to meet a first-time friend in Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, and while he was waiting, he felt the urge to urinate and proceeded to urinate near a car parked by drainage.

However, he was accosted by one of the workers who accused him of being a thief. An angry mob descended on him before he could explain himself and he was later handed over to the police which led to his detention for two months making him miss the SIWES.

He said he approached Mrs. Zakariyau to explain things to her but the lecturer told him there was no help to offer, except he joined the next set which would result in an extra-year.
