Two groups from the University of Ilorin has won the first and third positions at the just concluded first Open Data Research Group (ODDC) Hackathon Open competition organized to celebrate the World Hack Day.
The competition was organized by the Unilorin Open Data Research Group (ODDC) in collaboration with BudgIT Nigeria, to celebrate the World Hackathon Day held at the University of Ilorin Auditorium.
The Unilorin winning team comprising Mr. Lai Bello (team leader), Tolayemi Oluwatoyosi, and Umar Ismail from the Department of Information and Communication Sciences and Akinwale Victor of the Computer Science Department clinched the first prize with cash award of N30,000.00.
The second Unilorin team comprising Mr. S. A. Sanni; Oke John; Peter Makafan and Nosu Obaseki from the Computer Science Department won the third position with cash award of N10.000 behind team Al-Hikmah University Ilorin as the 1st runner up with cash award of N20,000.00.
Earlier while declaring the event open, the chairman of the occasion and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, said the event was the first of its kind in Nigeria.
Professor Ambali, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Yissa Fakunle, said organizing such programme is a credit to the university.
The vice chancellor commended BudgIT for the gesture and assured that the institution will maintain its relationship with the host community and partner with them in terms of innovation and knowledge sharing.
In his remark, the head of operation BudgIT Nigeria, Stanley Achonu, said that, “Hackthon is a value of communication that can be used as basis for reasoning, discussion or calculation.
