he Chairman of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria/Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (ASAN/NIAS), Kwara State Chapter, Prof. M. A. Belewu, has called for the establishment of Animal Science Club in secondary schools in the country to boost the knowledge of Agriculture among students.
Prof. Belewu gave the advice penultimate Monday (June 16, 2014), at the 1st Animal Science Association of Nigeria/Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (ASAN/NIAS) Inter-Schools Quiz Competition sponsored by him, where students of the University of Ilorin Secondary School (USS) won the overall best prize.
The Professor of Animal Science at the University of Ilorin said that the Association organised the quiz competition “as a means of catching the future leaders young.”.
Congratulating the schools for being part of the maiden edition of the competition, Prof. Belewu said that the essence of the quiz is to tell the students what Animal Science is all about and to carry the younger ones along.
The University of Ilorin Secondary School (USS), represented by Abdulkareem Nimat and Olanipekun Abdulazeez, came first while Flora College, Tanke, Ilorin and Emmanuel Baptist College, Tanke, Ilorin came second and third respectively.
