The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reportedly put in place a panel to punish students who took part in the recent campus protest.
According to SaharaReporters, The Senate Disciplinary Panel, has invited students to the panel with intentions of punishing them if found to have been involved in the protest.
The protest was staged by students in April, in an effort to call the school management's attention to the deplorable living condition and lack of amenities on campus.
The management has already suspended the University of Lagos Students’ Union following the protest. It ejected members of the union from their campus accommodation once the school reopened after the protest.
In response to their action, the university authorities attributed the students’ demonstration to exuberance and accused the Students’ Union leadership of lacking integrity.
Every member of the suspended Students' Union has been invited to the oanel.
SaharaReporters obtained information that the move is part of a plot to distract the students from launching a fresh protest for the restoration of the suspended union.
The source added that the students have launched a social media campaign for the restoration of the University of Lagos Students Union (ULSU) under a hashtag #RestoreULSU. This, he added, has caused the authorities huge embarrassment, forcing them into a crackdown on students leading the agitation.
