The University Of Lagos (UNILAG) has matriculated a total number of 7,822 students for the 2016/2017 academic session.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Rahamon Bello.
While explaining how the institution arrived at the number of matriculation students, he said that 38,140 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) applicants and 4,310 direct entries, totalling 42, 440 applicants, began the selection process.
Out of which 25,883 candidates scored 200 and above at the UTME. 19,732 presented themselves for screening.
6,506 were offered provisional admissions in the UTME category and 2,238 in the direct entry category, bringing the number to 8,744.
After a thorough screening exercise, 7,882, representing 18.69 percent of the total number of applicants (UTME and Direct), Scaled the registration procedure.
He reminded the matriculating students that gaining admission into the 54-year-old institution was not only noble but also glorious adding that completing the matriculation process was not the end of their journey to obtain tertiary education by actually the first step.
He advised them be determined, diligence and zealous towards achieved academic excellence and shun cultism and other social vices that will jeopardize their stay in the institution.
