UNIJOS Collaborate with African Varsities, Introduces New Course:
The University of Jos is to collaborate with some African universities with a view to seeking a solution to the policy management crisis facing many African governments and institutions.
This comes as the university plans to inaugurate a postgraduate course in Research and Public Policy.
About 12 universities including the Universities of Botswana, Ghana, Lagos, Sierra Leone, Dar University of Kenya; University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Tanzania; and Uganda Martyr University are in the partnership.
The new course aims at solving problems of political, economic and social problems, which the university claims has been the bane of development in Africa.

The Head of Department of the Political Science at UNIJOS and Coordinator of MRPP, Dr. Bonaventure Haruna, who stated this during a workshop for prospective teaching officials and handlers of the programme in Jos, said the new course was born out of the need to address the states of crisis in African social institutions.
The HOD said the programme was conceived following the Commission for African Reports of 2006/7, which looked at diminishing resources, declining academic standards, falling outputs, limited engagements in domestic policy formulations, among other issues on the continent.
This, he said, prompted about 22 African universities to embark on consultations with both regional and international resource persons on how best to address the problems, which he added, culminated in the inauguration of the initiative in February, 2011 in Nairobi, the Kenya capital.
He said the new programme, championed by Partnership for African Social and Governance Research would admit its first set of students in September this year. (Punch)
