UNIJOS Suspends 91-day-old ASUU Strike

University of Jos, UNIJOS 91 days old ASUU Strike suspended.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Jos, has called off its three months old strike.

Rising from an emergency congress meeting of the association at the union’s secretariat in Jos, the Branch Chairman, Chris Piwun, expressed satisfaction with the agreement arrived between the union and the school as well as the conduct of the members which resulted in suspending the industrial action.

Students of UNIJOS have been at home for three months, following the strike embarked on by their lecturers over several issues affecting the academic staff of the university.

According to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the minister, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai and the Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Chris Piwuna, the university agreed to pay all the outstanding allowances to the lecturers, including paying all those on the ASUU submitted list of 653 members the sum of N38 million on Friday yesterday.

The minister of Youths and Sports Development Barr. Solomon Dalung facilitated the meeting between the University management and the leadership of ASUU, in the presence of the ASUU, Bauchi zonal coordinator at the Senate Chamber.
