UNIJOS suspends academic activities due to insecurity

The authorities of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have ordered students on campus to vacate their hostels with immediate effect until further notice due to insecurity. The University also said it had suspended all academic activities for the 2019/2020 session pending a return of normalcy.

This was contained in a statement signed but the Registrar of the university, Monday Danjem on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNIJOS chapter has advised the Federal Government to secure the University of Jos against attacks and killing of its staff and students before the next reopening of the school.

The Union made the request in a statement on Sunday following a security breach in Jos and other parts of Plateau state leading to the killing of some students.

According to the union, the immediate environments to the University have become hostile to the University community that students and staff are targeted and killed rather than protected from hoodlums.
