The attention of Management of the University of Jos has been drawn to a fake social media account on Facebook created by fraudsters under the profile name of Tanko Ishaya purporting to be that of the University’s Vice-Chancellor. The Facebook account appears to be for the purpose of misinforming members of the public and defrauding prospective job seekers under the guise of securing them employment with the University.
Operators of the fake Facebook account have been sending unsolicited messages to some Staff of the University and unsuspecting members of the public asking them to pay the sum of N250,000 to secure employment slots for Administrative Officers with Degree and HND qualifications in the University. The messages are further requesting interested persons to contact one Dr Egbe which they claim is a Staff of the Federal Ministry in Abuja on the mobile phone number 0912 817 8930 to submit their Curriculum Vitae and pay the said amount being demanded.
Management of the University of Jos wishes to state categorically that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya does not currently operate a Facebook account either in his personal or official capacity. Therefore, prospective job seekers should not contact any person or group through Facebook or similar platforms for the purpose of securing employment with the University.
For the avoidance of doubt, the University of Jos is currently not recruiting any category of Staff. Whenever any such employment opportunities exist, the University Authorities will formally advertise available vacancies through its website www.unijos.edu.ng, Radio Station ICE FM 96.1 and other traditional Print and Electronic media channels.
Members of the University community and the general public should please note and be wary of fraudsters using the University’s name to perpetrate their nefarious activities as the University will not be held liable for any such transactions.
