UNICEF hands over newly reconstructed schools to Borno

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has handed over the newly reconstructed classrooms, toilets, and other school facilities funded by the European Union, to the Borno state government on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

The Borno state UNICEF Chief Field Officer Phuong Nguyen, during the handing over-exercise which took place at the Shehu Sanda Karimi II Primary School, Maiduguri, said 6,000 pupils and 58 teachers displaced by insurgency will benefit from the facilities.

The Borno State Deputy Governor Mustapha Kadafur, present at the event, commended UNICEF and the project funder, EU, for the gesture, saying the government is open for more support from other partners who are ready to support the insurgency devastated state.

The current UNICEF intervention would assist school children from six local governments in the state including Hawul, Jere, Monguno, Gwoza, Damasak, and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).
