The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Florence Obi says her administration would accord priority attention to staff welfare and training for increased productivity. Prof. Florence stated this when Executive Members of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), UNICAL Branch, paid a courtesy call on her.
While stressing the need for training and re-training of administrators, the Vice-Chancellor called on ANUPA to adhere strictly to the tenets of their profession by displaying a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties. Hear her, "as Professional Administrators, professionalism should be your watchword, proper ethics should be your watchword, your attitude to work matters because it will help the university to grow."
"Staff development and training is paramount in any organization and that is one of the cardinal objectives of my administration. We would work closely with ANUPA to ensure adequate training of staff."
According to her, a motivated staff would be committed to discharge his or her duties effectively, a cogent reason, her administration has placed staff welfare on the front burner. The Chairman of ANUPA UCB, Barr. George Fortune, in his remarks, said the essence of the visit was to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on her emergence as the first female VC of the institution.
Describing her appointment as "strategic", the ANUPA Chairman promised to join forces with her to take the institution to enviable heights. Barr. George who also underscored the need for training of administrators applauded the Vice Chancellor for showing keen interest on training and staff welfare, which he believed, will boost staff productivity.
