UNICAL Professor jailed for manipulating election results for APC

Professor Peter Ogban, of the department of soil science at the University of Calabar, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by a High Court sitting in Akwa-Ibom State, for the fraudulent manipulation of election results.

The professor was the returning officer in the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial election in the 2019 general elections and was accused of publishing and announcing false results in two Local Government Areas – Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo.

He was prosecuted at a State High Court in Ikot Ekpene by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and sentenced today, March 25 2021 by the presiding judge.

The court found him guilty of altering the election results to favor the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), against its main rival, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This comes after he told the court in a previous session how the results of the election were falsified to give the APC an unfair advantage over PDP.
