UNICAL issues notice to staff and students

The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has released a statement concerning the recent attack of some facilities in the university during the #EndSARS protest.

The statement reads, "Recall that management had earlier requested of Administrative, Professional and Technical staff of the university to resume work after the protracted lockdown occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. However, the recent event in the state where Hoodlums Hijacked the peaceful Endsars protests by the youth to unleash terror on individuals' private property the state and some institutions have taken us a little backward.

Management condemns in strong terms the dastardly acts especially those targeted at our hallowed institution and vows to bring the perpetrators to book.

It took our university so much to put these teaching and learning facilities in place and so we will not fold our hands and watch miscreants destroy these facilities with utmost impunity. Management advised staff with useful information on the perpetrator of these devilish acts to freely contact the Chief Security Officer of the university.

Meanwhile, the 24hours curfew imposed by the cross river state government is still in effect as part of the measures to forestall total breakdown of law and order in the state our staff are accordingly advised to adhere to the state government order by staying at home until further notice let me use this opportunity to commend the gallantry of our security personnel and our ever responsible students who confronted the hoodlums thereby reducing the effects of the devastating on our properties may the Good Lord keep you safe both now and always."
