UNICAL Combined 35th & 36th Convocation Ceremony

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has officially announced its combined 35th and 36th Convocation Ceremony for graduates up to and including the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions. The ceremony will be a week-long event packed with exciting activities for graduands, their families, and friends.

The program of activities kicks off on Monday, May 1st, 2023, with a press conference by the Vice Chancellor at the Council Chamber, followed by an Interdenominational Service and Research Fair and Exhibition on May 2nd.

The third day, May 3rd, will feature a Meeting of Convocation (Alumni), Staff Meritorious Service Award, and the continuation of the Research Fair and Exhibition, with prizes and closing ceremony.

On Thursday, May 4th, there will be an investiture of the 6th Chancellor of UNICAL, followed by a Convocation Lecture by Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, discussing the topic: “The Leadership and Followership Question in Nigeria: Imperative of Ethical Re-Orientation.” The day will conclude with a Command Performance at the Chinua Achebe New Art Theatre.

Friday, May 5th, will be dedicated to the awarding of first degrees and diplomas, as well as the induction into UNICAL Alumni. This event will take place at the Abraham Ordia Stadium.

The final day, May 6th, will feature the award of postgraduate and honorary degrees, investiture of emeritus professors, and induction into UNICAL Alumni at the Unical International Conference Centre.

Graduands are advised to obtain their academic gowns from the Faculty Officers upon presentation of evidence of payment. The gowns must be returned by May 12th, 2023, to avoid a fine of N1,000.00 per day.
