The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), in a bid to crack down on indecent dressing on campus, has issued a new dress code for students and staff of the university. This was contained in a statement issued by the university's director of SERVICOM, Prof. Patrick Egaga.
The director noted that the increased indecent and provocative dressing was mostly among students and some female employees of the school.
Some of the dressing the statement listed as indecent are short skirts or gowns above the knee, open backs, crop tops, braless tops and gowns, sleeveless tops, handless gowns, transparent, apparel, and revealing contours.
Others are handless gowns, bum short revealing laps, slit skirts, body hugs, V-necks exposing breasts, tubes, strip-less, rag jeans, shorts above the knee, sleeveless shirts, singlets, lingerie, sagged trousers, amongst others.
The statement added that the new dress code will take effect from Tuesday, May 2, 2023, and any student or staff member found wearing any of the banned regalia, would be denied effective access into any of the university facilities or be appropriately sanctioned.
Female students and female staff were advised to imitate the dressing culture of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, and her deputies, while male students and employees were admonished to emulate the dressing pattern of the university council chairman, Gen. Martin Luther-Agwai (retd.), and the Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe.
