UNIBEN VC Returns Back to Office

Staff and students of the University of Benin (UNI BEN) on Monday, excitedly received the Vice Chancellor of university, Professor Godwin Oshodin, after about three month absence for medical treatment overseas.

Oshodin, until Monday, was last seen in the institution campus in May, after which some of his opponents fuelled speculations over his health and called for the appointment of an acting vice chancellor in his absence.

The VC made a surprise appearance a the institution’s Senate building at about 11:00 a.m. to attend a meeting of the appointment and promotion board of the university.

Meanwhile, three associations in the University of Benin – Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU) on Monday, berated calls by some sections of the university for the appointment of an acting vice chancellor for the institution because of the absence Oshodin.

SSANU, NAAT and NASU, who were represented at a press briefing at the institution by John Osaretin Alile, S.M. Momoh and Joel Idonije respectively, noted that is a mark of mischief for anyone to claim that the absence of the vice chancellor has created tension a slowed down activities within the university.
