University of Benin yesterday was a living hell for some of the new students under going the screening exercise.
Information gathered was that, students who were entering the hall where the screening was taking place was forcefully closed the gate against which led to a stampede.
In an interview with one of the students who didn't disclose her name, said the stampede started when some security personnel forcefully closed the gate on students who were entering the venue for the screening exercise which led to some stepping on others to avoid injuries.
The student further said some of the students fainted at the spot and wasn't sure if any was dead.
When contacted for comment on the incident the university’s public relations officer, Harrison Osarenren, denied that there was stampede, adding that the screening was going on peacefully.
