The University of Abuja is currently investigating a dean from the faculty of sciences for soliciting sex to award marks to a female students, believed to be his student.
The information reaching us have it that on Sunday the UNIABUJA senior lecturer was caught pant down in a sting operation at a hotel in Gwarimpa area of Abuja, where he had gone to calm down his nerves (sex) with the student.
A very reliable source from the university informed SchoolGist that the student who was being pressured by the Dean for sexual relationship, had reported the matter to the university’s security unit as well as the police for safety and record purposes.
SchoolGist was able to gather that the dean intentionally kept failing the lady in his course except she was willing to give in to his sexual demands according to the alleged victim.
The police and security planned with the student to play along in order to concertize the girl’s claims which finally led to the professor lodging in a hotel room in the highbrow area of Abuja, Gwarimpa quarters precisely.
This move led to catching the dead pants down in the hotel run trying to have canal knowledge of the student which eventually led to his arrest.
SchoolGist learnt that though the university community falls under the responsibility of Lugbe Police Station, the sting operation and the arrest was handled by the police station in Gwarimpa.
In order to prevent dragging the name of the university in the mud, the university we learnt was keeping the scandal under the sheets to prevent public embarrassments.
Though Chief Security Officer of the university, Ibrahim Abdullahi Buga, could not be reached as his phone was switched off when we tried reaching out to him as regards the subject matter. However, a source in the security department confided in our reporter that the management of the university had set up a committee to investigate the alleged sexual assault on the student which would be made public upon full and thorough investigations have been completed.
The acting Information Officer of the university, Hajiya Maryam Mohammed, while confirming the setting up of the committee said the staff in question had been queried.
In her words she said “You know the man in question has been issued a query as a panel has been constituted to listen to him in order to give him a fair hearing. That’s where we are right now because we have to wait for the committee to do something about it. So I cannot tell you anything again until the committee finishes its work and as soon as there is anything, I will let you know,”
She further reminded us that the current UNIABUJA VC (Vice Chancellor) is someone with zero tolerance for nonsense, hence will deal with the matter decisively.
Again, the Federal Capital Territory police commissioner, Bala Ciroma, confirmed that the police had received a report of an alleged sexual assault from a female student of the university of abuja and that FCT police were investigating the matter after which would be made public for other lecturers to learn from.
