UI VC, Prof. Isaac Adewole condoles with NUJ on death of journalists

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has joined other Nigerians to mourn the passage of three journalists who died in a road accident.

The VC, who described the loss as devastating, recalled that the journalists were “our partners in promoting and sustaining higher education in Nigeria.”

Adewole said the Nigerian media family was going through a sad period due to the loss of the people, who he described as patriots, and others who were injured in the fatal accident while returning from a national assignment.

In a condolence letter to the National President of NUJ, Mallam Garba Mohammed, the VC, on behalf of Council, Senate, Congregation, members of staff and students of UI, commiserated with Nigerian journalists, families, friends, colleagues, associates and lovers of free press on the loss of the “three thoroughbred professionals.”

He prayed that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Thanking God for the exemplary lives that these journalists lived, Adewole called on God to grant them eternal rest.

A university delegation led by the Director of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, had since visited the injured ones, who include the Chairman, Oyo State NUJ, Mr. Gbenga Opadotun, and the union’s National Treasurer, Alhaja Fatima Abdul-Kareem.
