University of Ibadan (UI) says University of Ilorin is a perfect example for other universities.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has commended the University of Ilorin for its stable academic calendar, saying that Unilorin is a typical example of what a University should be.
Prof. Adewole made the observation in Ilorin last Wednesday (November 5, 2014) while delivering a keynote address at an academic seminar organised by the University of Ilorin Medical Graduands Class of 2014 at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Multi-purpose Hall, Oke-Oyi, Ilorin.
The Vice-Chancellor said, ”I must commend this University for what you have done; you have enjoyed stability; you have been an example of what a university system should be.”

Speaking on ”The Changing Phase of Medicine: implications for Medical Training in Nigeria”, Prof. Adewole pointed out that the University of Ilorin is ahead of other universities in the country with the establishment of a Clinical Skills Laboratory, especially with the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) directive that any Medical School that fails to have one will not be accorded recognition over time.
The Guest Speaker said, “Let me commend the University of Ilorin for establishing a Clinical Skills Laboratory, we are behind you in this. In addition, there is the NUC directive that any Medical School that fails to establish a clinical school lab will not be accorded recognition overtime. So, what you have done is a step ahead of others and I can assure you that we will join you soon.”
On the last strike embarked upon by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the Vice-Chancellor called on the Federal Government and the medical practitioners to guard against future reoccurrence, saying that the government should play its part while the NMA should handle the use of the strike option with diligence because of its serious implications, which include the avoidable loss of lives of innocent patients.
Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, who was represented on the occasion by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Yisa Fakunle, told the graduating students to keep exhibiting exemplary character that they are known for.
In his own remarks, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Johnson, expressed satisfaction with the 2014 Class of medical graduands, who, he said, have blended their academic excellence with good character.
The Chairman of the Programme’s Central Planning Committee, Enoch Adewumi, expressed gratitude to the Guest Speaker for personally gracing the occasion. He urged his fellow graduating students to “be a perfect example of the physician who has the best interest of the patients at heart”.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the immediate past Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Ayodele Omotoso; the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. O.T. Adedoyin, Heads of Departments, representative of the Chief Medical Director, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital; and the graduating medical students who have tagged themselves ”Quinta Essentia”, which means the Perfect Example in Latin
