Earlier this semester, there was a proposition for a 100% increment in transportation fare due to the rise in petrol prices from #580/litre (as at the last price review) to #1040/litre. The Union, after careful consideration, rejected this proposition as it was deemed exorbitant and burdensome for students of the university.
In response to this situation, the Union took proactive steps to address the issue. The transportation committee conducted experiments to analyze fuel consumption and daily earnings of transport workers. The findings from these experiments were presented at the Intra-Campus Transportation Committee meetings.
After thorough review and consideration, we are pleased to announce that the Union has successfully negotiated and finalized a revised transportation fare price list that takes into account the current petrol price and the financial constraints faced by students. This revised price list has been made available on the attached imageĀ and will come into effect starting today.
We are committed to ensuring that the transportation prices remain reasonable and fair, even amidst the. situation and the high petrol prices.
Additionally, we urge all students to report any instances of extortion by transport workers to the House Secretary of the Union. Your feedback and cooperation are essential in maintaining a transparent and accountable transportation system oncamp us.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We are dedicated to serving your best interests and will continue to work towards enhancing the overall welfare and experience of all students at our university.
