Ufuoma Stacey McDermot formerly known as Ufuoma Mcdermott, is a Nigerian actress of Urhobo descent, who was born in Benin City on 23rd April 1981. The parents of the talented actress are both from Ewu Clan, in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State. Ufuoma spent her early years in Benin City where she was born, then later to Jos before finally moving to Lagos where she has lived up till today. At the age of 7, her father came-up-with a pet name for her, “Isio” which means “star” in Urhobo. The name star, was derived from the star actress of the TELEFEST programme organized by NTA Benin, The Pot of Life. As a result of frequent change in environment, the young soon to be star actress attended three schools for her early education.
Early Education Background:
She attended Alama Private School, Jos, Plateau state, Tunwase Nursery and primary school, Ikeja, Lagos and Molly International Nursery and primary, Ajao Estate for her nursery and primary education. For her secondary school education, she attended Federal Government College, Odogbolu, Ogun State where she obtained her secondary school certificate. As a young girl Ufuoma loved to watch Tv a lot that she was often scolded by her mother for it, due to her lack of concentration on other things once the Television was on, just like other children her age. Her other interests where; reading novels, love for solving mathematical problems and French Language. She was so good in French and Mathematics, that she won the best student award in both of them. The young, talented and beautiful Ufuoma was a brilliant student who was loved by both her classmates and her teachers alike and this earned her a badge as the school’s Head girl 1998/99 session. The beautiful dark-skinned actress, holds a degree in French Language and a master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Lagos. She also obtained certifications and diplomas from Alliance Française and NIIT. Having a kin interest in acting from a young age, she went ahead to study acting at New York Film Academy, Los Angeles and film-making at Dov Simen’s Hollywood Film Institute. Modeling Career:
The 40 year old actress, started a career in entertainment with modelling in 2000. As a photographic model, she graced posters, calendars, covers, inner pages of magazines and billboards for different brands which include; Joy magazine, PZ. Ruby and Pink. Yamaha, Genevieve magazine, Lux Soap, Fan Milk e.t.c. In 2001, Ufuoma competed in her first beauty pageant ever, where she emerged 2nd runner up. By 2002, she had participated in two mini pageants, won the Miss Ebony beauty pageant 2001 and partook in her first National Pageant: Miss Commonwealth, where she came out as the winner of the Miss Congeniality prize. Later that same year, she emerged as the 1st runner up in the queen Afrik beauty pageant. 2003 saw her in the Queen of all Nations beauty pageant where she was again, the second runner up. In 2004, she took part in the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant where she emerged 1st runner up. Subsequently, she was crowned Miss Earth Nigeria and she represented the country at the Miss Earth International Beauty Pageant held in the Philippines.
Her Acting Career:
In 2004, the talented actress made her movie debut in Zeb Ejiro’s The President Must Not Die. Since then the talented actress has featured in a host of other movies like; Edge of Paradise, Life and Death, Honey Desire, Hear Word, Okoro the Prince and Wives on Strike among others. In 2019, our star actress organized a live-theater experience at the Eko Hotel and Towers in Lagos, themed “The USM Show with Ufuoma McDermott”. The event was a blend of dance performances, life music and a debut of her stage production “The Magic of a Dream“. She also directed her first movie in 2013 in a film “Christmas is coming” while her production career was debuted in a movie called “What Just Happened” in cinemas across Nigeria.

Exactly on her birthday (April 23rd) in 2010, Ufuoma got married to Steven McDermott an American. They have been married for more than ten years now and are blessed with two children, a boy and a girl (Isio is the boy and Kes is the girl). She also revealed in 2018 that her son who she named after herself “Isio”, was conceived through IVF vitro fertilization. Isio was born in 2012 and Kes was born in 2015.
