Tragedy hits Borno varsity as Dangote truck kills final-year student, one other

According to Daily Post: Two students from Borno State University (BOSU) tragically lost their lives in a fatal motor accident along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, near the Jimtilo area. The accident occurred on Wednesday when a Dangote truck, traveling at high speed, lost control and collided with the bus carrying BOSU students. The students were returning home after completing their semester exams.

The victims were identified as a male final-year student and a female second-year student. Several other students sustained various injuries and were evacuated to Umaru Shehu Hospital in Maiduguri and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

BOSU's Information and Public Relations Officer, Abba A. Massa, confirmed the incident, and university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, as well as other staff members, provided support throughout the night.

In a show of solidarity, a bus of BOSU students visited the hospital to donate blood, which was urgently needed for the victims. The two deceased students are scheduled to be buried on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
