The Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has requested an amendment of the Act that established the council. According to them, the change will promote quality education. Registrar of the Council, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye made this call through a document submitted to the National Assembly.
He revealed that the act called for a change of name to Teachers’ Regulatory Council of Nigeria which will reflect the full mandate of the council. According to him, it will address the falling standards of education in the country and ensure that teachers are properly certified by appropriate authorities.
Prof. Ajiboye recalled that the bill had passed through the second reading and public hearing stage of the 8th National Assembly and was almost concluded. Reacting to this, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere reassured the council that steps were being taken to amend the act.
