6 students remain in custody for alleged involvement in cultism.
Forty of the students of Tai Solarin College of Education, TASCE, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, arrested over alleged cultism and assault on a Divisional Police Officer have been granted bail.
Violence broke out in the college last week over school fees ,where some alleged cultists caused mayhem on the campus. The school had prevented debtors from sitting for examinations, a development that did not go down well with some of the students.
However, the violent reaction of the students resulted in an assault on a police officer as well as the alleged smashing of his car. The college authority later expelled twenty-six of the students found to be cultists who spearheaded the riot and also proscribed the Students Union Government, SUG, of the college.
Also, the police arrested 46 of the students and detained them at the Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, the state capital.
However, following the intervention of some group of lawyers on Thursday, forty of the suspects regained their freedom at about 7.00 p.m., while six others remained in custody after being linked to cult activities.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached as his phones were unreachable as at the time of this report.
