The Ogun State Government on Wednesday dismissed the Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED, Ijebu-Ode, Segun Awonusi, and subsequently announced a replacement.
A statement to this effect from the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, which was made available to journalists in Abeokuta, affirmed the appointment of Oluyemsi Obilade as the new Vice-Chancellor.
“The Ogun State Government has approved the appointment of Professor Oluyemisi Oluremi Obilade as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun,” Mr. Adeoluwa said. “Government has also relieved the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Segun Awonusi of his appointment.”
Mr. Adeoluwa said this was done in accordance with the laws establishing the University, stressing that the appointment takes immediate effect.
The new Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Adeoluwa explained, is an educationist and Professor of Education in the Department of Continuing Education, Faculty of Education of the Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile-Ife.
Mrs. Obilade has a Doctorate degree in Education from the Obafemi Awolowo University . She also holds Executive Business Education Certificates of the Havard Business School as well as that of Judge Business School , Cambridge University, United Kingdom .
The new boss of the university, who has a teaching experience spanning over 30 years, was at various times Commissioner for Education and Acting Commissioner for Health in Osun State. She was also a former Vice Dean of Student Affairs at the Obafemi Awolowo University.
She belongs to various professional bodies including the Nigerian National Council for Adults Education, Nigeria Society of Educators, Adult Education and Poverty Reduction Network, United Kingdom among others.
She is a fellow of HERS Academy, Cape Town , South Africa, and International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation, Washington D.C. , United States of America .
The Vice-Chancellor is married to Professor T.O. Obilade and the union is blessed with four children.
