Sule Lamido University gets new Vice-Chancellor

The Jigawa State Governor and Visitor to Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa, His Excellency, Malam Umar Namadi, FCA has confirmed the appointment of Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, fcasson, mnae, as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The confirmation followed his earlier appointment by the University Governing Council, which was subject to confirmation by the Visitor, at its 36th Regular Council Meeting held on Thursday 30th November, 2023. The appointment was based on the provisions of Section 10 of the University Law (2013) and Section 4 of the Second Schedule of the Law and is for a term of five (5) years.

A Professor of Educational Psychology, Professor Muhammad was born on Saturday 11th June, 1960 in Garun Gabas Town of Malammadori Local Government Area, Jigawa State. He obtained B. A. Ed. (Education/History) and M. Ed. (Educational Psychology) from Bayero University, Kano and Ph.D (Educational Psychology) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between 1986 and 2000. Until his appointment, he was Deputy Dean, Students’ Affairs Department, Dean, Students’ Affairs Department, Head, Department of Education, Dean, Faculty of Education, Director, Bayero University Consultancy Service Unit, Dean, School of General and Entrepreneurial Studies and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, all in Bayero University, Kano between 1999 and 2019.

While on Sabbatical in the SLU, he was the Pioneer Director of Academic Planning Unit of the University. This was in addition to numerous responsibilities at Department and deanery levels. His publications include 4 books, 24 Articles in Referred Journals, 6 Articles in Non Referred Journals and 46 Academic Presentations. Professor Yakasai has supervised more than 200 undergraduate projects, over 40 Masters Dissertations and 15 Ph.D Theses.

He currently has six Ph.D students under his supervision. The new Vice-Chancellor is a Member, Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Member, Nigerian Society of Educational Psychology (NISEP), Member, Nigerian Academy for Education (NAE) and Member, Africa-Asia Dialogue in Educational Development (AAD) with Headquarters at Center for the Study of International Cooperation in Education (CICE), Hiroshima University, Japan. Professor Muhammad is married with children.
