Student Unionism Banned in Ondo Federal poly – Rector

Prof. Emmanuel Fasakin, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ile Oluji, Ondo State, on Monday stated that there would be no room for a student union government in the institution.

He said, “Many of our students are not mature enough to operate a union on campus. So having a union now can be counter-productive. But when we start our Higher National Diploma programme we can permit a students’ union to exist because at that time we would have admitted mature students."

He stated that the institution needed a union that would drive toward institutional development rather than destruction, a union that would ensure acamedic stability and tranquility on campus. He said that the activities of students in the polytechnic had to be regulated to avoid excess, therefore, no student's association or group would be allowed to exist without being certified by the institution.
