The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University chapter has dared Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state to make bare his threats of withholding their subvention should they refuse to suspend the ongoing ASUU strike and resume school activities.
LAUTECH ASUU chairman and secretary, Prof Biodun Olaniran and Toyin Abegunrin reacted to the governor's threat after their congress meeting on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, saying they have decided to continue the industrial action to a logical conclusion.
The union stated that breaking out from the strike would cause them to lose out on the benefits of the struggle including infrastructure development, adding that neither the government nor students were targets of the strike.
They however countered claims made by the state commissioner of education during a radio interview that the state has been paying LAUTECH 100 percent subvention when the university administration revealed to the union that only 55 percent subvention comes from the government and the balance of 45percent is sought by the university through Internally Generated Revenue.
The ASUU leaders stated that the commissioner’s claim on subvention had further created distrust between the management and the unions as to who is telling the truth and who is not.
