Strike: ASUU kicks as FG pays lecturers half salary

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the newly registered Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA), has kicked against the federal government's decision to pay half salaries to lecturers for the month of October, following the suspension of the 8-month-old strike.

ASUU's vice president, Chris Piwuna, who confirmed the development described it as “insulting, humiliating, and embarrassing.”

The University of Lagos chapter of ASUU also condemned the federal government in a tweet posted on its Twitter page while calling on its members to remain calm.

Also, the National Coordinator of CONUA, ‘Niyi Sunmonu, described the act as unfortunate and further appealed to members that all the contradictions would be resolved.

Recall that the federal government had insisted on a ''No work, No pay'' policy for the period the university workers were striking. The lecturers eventually suspended the strike and resumed school activities on October 14. It is unsure if this will eventually lead to another industrial action.
