SSANU rejects sack of LAUTECH VC by Gov. Makinde

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Branch, Ogbomoso chapter has reacted to the sack of the institution's vice-chancellor by the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde.

Governor Makinde, had on Friday, directed that the Vice-Chancellor Prof Michael Ologunde step aside until further notice. The governor had accused the vice-chancellor of instigating workers of the university to agitate payment of unpaid salaries immediately after the Oyo state government took over ownership of the institution. However, SSANU after holding an emergency meeting to address the directive on Sunday, April 18 said Governor Makinde’s directive was illegal. The union released a statement condemning the sack of the VC stating that the power to appoint and terminate staff appointments is resided in the Governing Council and not the Visitor or his proxies including the Commissioner of Education, Science & Technology.
