SSANU joins ASUU-TSU strike, cripples activities at Taraba varsity.

Taraba State University is currently experiencing a complete halt in both academic and administrative activities due to a strike action initiated by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU). This action follows the earlier strike by the university's academic staff and is a result of the state's and university management's failure to address the union's longstanding demands.

The SSANU leadership, through a statement by their state chairman, Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka, expressed frustration with the government and management for neglecting the union's concerns. Key issues include unpaid salaries, withheld balances of previous salary payments, the absence of a pension scheme, and a lack of progress on promotions and allowances. Additionally, the dissolution of the university's Governing Council by the state governor earlier this year is seen as further destabilizing the institution.

The union also highlighted that the university continues to pay its staff based on outdated salary scales, with no implementation of the national minimum wage increases for the years 2019, 2023, and the newly enacted 2024 wage. They also mentioned unpaid administrative allowances dating back to 2009.

Before this strike, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Taraba State University had drawn attention to the loss of three members, which they linked to the government's disregard for the welfare of university staff.
