Sokoto Students Laud Govt For Establishment Of New State University

The Sokoto State indigenes in tertiary institutions on Saturday lauded the establishment of the new state university.

The President of the Federated Organisation of Sokoto State Students Associations (FOSA), Malam Ibrahim Tureta, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Sokoto.

“The organisation has current membership strength of about 53,000 students currently, who are being sponsored by the state government.

“ Majority of these students are studying in various institutions in Nigeria, while the rest are in other parts of Africa.

“ Several others are in Europe, Asia, Middle East and the Americas, and their studies they are successfully and progressively pursuing their various studies,” he added.

Tureta said that the state university would afford the youths of the state to pursue various degree programmes.

“Hitherto, majority of qualified applicants from the state could not gain admission into the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and other universities across Nigeria

“Although, the new state university will also admit students from other states, indigenes of the state will have an upper hand now,” he added.

The president also lauded the upgrading of the state School of Nursing and Midwifery to a degree-awarding institution.

“These and many other countless programmes and policies showed that Gov. Wamakko’s administration is students-friendly, and it is concerned about their future.

“ Wamakko is fully committed to empowering the youths to enable them to play their roles,” Tureta, said.

Tureta urged his colleagues to reciprocate the government’s gesture by shunning all acts capable of stagnating their academic pursuits.
