Sokoto state govt. sets up committee to upgrade SSCOE to a university

Following plans by the Sokoto state government to upgrade Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE), to a University of Education, (read here), the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has set up a 17-man advisory committee to oversee it.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor Muhammad Bello released a statement naming members of the committee which will be headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of SSCOE, Prof. Muhammad Zayyan Umar, including five professors from Usman Danfodiyo University (UDUS), Sokoto, Professors A. A. Bagudo, Abubakar Umar Dikko, Malami Umar Tambuwal, Nasiru Gatawa, and Mansur Ibrahim as members.

Others iclude: Dr Mansur Isa Buhari, Mal. Abubakar Usman, Mallam Muhammad Kakale Jabo and Rilwan Muhammad of the UDUS Management Information System (MIS) and Mal. Sani Sahabi Bodinga from Sokoto State University.

Additional members are: Professor Aminu Abubakar, the Provost of Sokoto State College of Agriculture, Wurno, Dr Muhammad Wadata Hakimi, the Provost of the SSCOE and Pharmacist Abdulmustapa Ali, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education.

The remaining members are Dr. Amamatu Yusuf, Dr Nasiru Daniya and Kabir Umar Imam, who will serve as Secretary to the committee.

The state governor is also set to inaugurate an advisory committee.
