UNIABUJA undergraduate students win N1.7 million award

Six undergraduate students of the University of Abuja have won a total sum of N1, 745,000.500 for research in various fields. 

The beneficiaries are Kenneth Ezurike, Faiza Doyinsola Akano and Ozioma Esther Oyari( College of Health Sciences), who are working on Cardiovascular Disease Risk among Undergraduates; Collins Ogbu and John K, Musa (Faculty of Law) for Institutional Panacea to Protracted Criminal Litigations in Nigeria within the Context of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015; Aimionwane Osebhahiemen Cherith (College of Health Sciences) for Prevalence of Obesity, Overweight and Associated Risk Factors among Staff of University of Abuja, Nigeria; Mubarak Ayanniyi and Abdulmaalik Gomina(College of Health Sciences) for Bridging the Gap between Blood Donors and Patients through Life share Application.

Others are Obomighie Freedom Godsevidence for Personal and Hostel Hygiene among Students of University of Abuja and its Implications on their Academics; and Oyeleye Blessing Simon and Abayomi Phebe Oluwatosin (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) for Bacteria Associated with Milk and Milk Products Sold on Campus of University of Abuja, Nigeria.  

Presenting the award at the 2nd Undergraduate Research Day held on the Main Campus, today, the Director, Centre for Undergraduate Research ( CUR) Dr Taibat Atoyebi said the Centre received a total of seventeen (17) applications, out of which six (6) were approved by the Consultative Committee of the Centre. 

She said the thematic areas cover all areas of human endevours, adding that students are encouraged to explore in areas of their interest and apply.

The Director General National Office of Technology Acquisition Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Dan Azimi Mohammed Ibrahim was the Guest Speaker at the event.

Represented by Mr. Emeka Orji the Deputy Director, Corporate Planning of NOTAP, Azimi spoke on the theme: “Promoting National Development Through Research."

He called on the UofA students to champion the course of getting the country back on track of industrialization through research and innovation. 

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, who established the centre on 31st December 2019, encouraged the centre to go all the way to prepare the students for national development through quality research.

“What we are asking young people to do is to use their brain for positivity for Nigeria and ensure that this nation take its place among the comity of nations because we have it all, you have it all,” he said.
