Senator Austin Akobundu Foundation Educational Scholarship

The Senator Austin Akobundu Foundation is pleased to announce the initiation of the Senator Austin Akobundu Foundation Educational Scholarship, aimed at supporting eligible undergraduate students within Abia Central Senatorial District. This scholarship program offers a valuable opportunity for students to pursue their academic endeavors with financial assistance.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Academic Level: Applicants must be currently in their 2nd year (200 Level) in any public tertiary institution in Nigeria. They must have been admitted during the 2021/2022 academic session. Note: For institutions such as the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan, which experienced a disruption in the academic calendar, the 2021/2022 admission year criteria may not apply.

2. Academic Performance: Candidates must have attained a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 or its equivalent in their first academic session (i.e., First Year) for universities, or as per the grading system of other tertiary institutions.

3. Direct Entry Students: Individuals who have recently secured direct entry admission into their 2nd year and will remain in this academic level by the end of April 2024 are eligible to apply.

4. Sibling Status: Applicants who are siblings of current Senator Augustine Akobundu scholars are not eligible for the scholarship until their sibling's current scholarship has been completed. However, siblings of Senator Augustine Akobundu graduates are eligible.

Documents Required:

1. Academic Statement: Candidates must submit a statement of result for their first academic session (i.e., First Year) signed by the Department/Faculty's Administrative Officer, who acts as the representative of the registrar in the department/faculty. Direct entry candidates must also submit the qualifying results that earned them direct entry.

2. Community/Religious Affiliation: Applicants must present a letter of recognition from their community/religious group leader or an electricity bill for the last three months preceding the month of the interview to verify their current residency in Abia State.

3. Essay: Candidates are required to submit a 1200-word essay, divided into three parts: 

   (a) Expressing gratitude and providing reasons for it.

   (b) Reflecting on their greatest regret or worst decision in life and proposing alternative actions if faced with a similar situation.

   (c) Discussing the most significant decision they have made in life and justifying it.

4. Identification: Applicants must provide valid means of identification.

Application Deadline: The deadline for submitting scholarship applications is midnight on June 9, 2024. Any application not fully completed by the closing date will not be processed.

Please ensure all eligibility criteria are met and all required documents are submitted before the deadline to avoid disqualification.
