Sen. Okorocha loses EPU to the Imo state government

The power tussle between former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and the Imo state government over the ownership of the Eastern Palm University (now Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University) has now been put to rest following the issuance of an operating license by the National University Commission.

The commission handed the certificate for the university to Imo State through Governor Hope Uzodimma thereby affirming that the university is owned by the state government.

NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Abubakar Rasheed while presenting the certificate to the governor at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, said it will end the tussle between the former Governor and the state government over who owns the institution.

Recall that the duo had been in a power tussle over the ownership of the school after the Imo State Government laid claim to the facility built by Rochas while he was governor, arguing that it was built with state funds and hence should be the property of the state as against private ownership. This eventually led to the renaming of the university by the government.
