The Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Philip Nwanshi has revealed that the possibility of primary and secondary schools resuming was not certain because the state government is yet to pay teachers salaries.
The union insisted that teachers in the state will not resume if their salaries were not paid up to date. According to Nwanshi, about 2000 teachers have not been paid their salaries for almost seven months, despite the Governor’s promise to clear the teachers’ salary arrears.
He called on the Imo state government to implement the payments as soon as possible because the teachers were suffering. He further pleaded with members to exercise patience as the union was taking active steps to resolve the issue.
